Parish Priest

 

              Reverand  Father (Juan) Carlos A. Rios was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico in the year  1961.  He is the youngest of six children, and was raised in the Roman Catholic Church.  At the age of 12, he became an Evangelical Protestant and went to  theological school  at the age of 17.  At  the age of 18, he was  made a Minister and at 19 the Pastor of a Congregation in Jersey City, NJ which he led for 3 years.  During that time he did  further research and study of the Holy Scriptures, coming to the realization  that the true church of Jesus Christ was the Eastern Orthodox Church, and it's apostolic succession.  With that in  mind he relinquished his authority  as a Pastor and  was baptized  in the year 1983 as an Orthodox Christian in the Greek Orthodox  Church  in Astoria, NY  (under the Russian Church outside of Russia or Rocor)  by Reverand Father +Anthony Gavalas.  In  the  year 1985, he was elevated to reader by His Eminence Bishop +Akakios of  Greece-in Astoria, N.Y at the Holy Protection of the Mother  of God, Greek Orthodox  Church.
                  

                In the  year 1987, at the age of 26, he became acquainted  with the Cathedral of Saint Irene, (within the Metropolis  of the Greek Orthodox Church of North and South  America), under  his Eminence Metropolitan +Paisios.  He was  elevated  to the ministry as Deacon on Aug. 4, 1991 and then Ordained  to the holy  Priesthood on Jan. 7,1993. He was given the duties of assistant Priest in various parishes of the Metropolis in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and also worked with the Spanish section of the Metropolis newspaper (Voice of Orthodoxy).  He moved to Fort Myers, Florida in 1995 and worked with the fathers of the Holy Theotokos  Monastery guided by, Reverand Archemandrite and Hegumen Father +John Lewis. On Jan.  12, 1997, during the pastoral visit of his Eminence Metropolitan  +Paisios, to  Florida, he was elevated to the office of Protopresbyter.
               

                On April  10, 2006, he was received by Archbishop +John  of New York and New Jersey, under the Autonomous  Orthodox Metropolia of Milan, Western Europe,  and the Americas. 

               Currently,  he is  Parish Priest of the Holy Protection of the Theotokos Mission/Saint  Hosio of Cordoba located in Kissimmee, Florida.  He resides in  Kissimmee, Fl.  USA;  working along with the missionary vision to embrace newcomers  and spread  the Gospel and the Holy Orthodox  Faith to those in the Central  Florida  community who seek the True Church of the Apostles..
